Tension Control in Wire and Cable Manufacturing

The manufacture of wire and cable products requires consistent tension to deliver reproducible quality results, minimize downtime and increase operator efficiency. Labrinth cable tension sensor can be used in combination with a closed-loop tension controller to provide an automatic tension control circuit solution. Labirinth Miniature Load Cells and Cable Tension Sensors (also known as Wire Rope Tension Load Cells) can be customized to suit a wide range of applications that require tension measurement on cables, wires, fibers or ropes.

The benefits of wire and cable tension control include:

Minimizes stretching or breaking during manufacturing

Optimize manufacturing speed

Reduce entanglement events and minimize downtime

Leverage existing machine and operator capabilities to manufacture a wider range of products

Consistently high quality product

how it works

Although such applications are often associated with the textile industry, the use of force sensors as cable tension sensors (also known as wire rope tension load cells) to measure steel wire tension is very common in the test and measurement field. Using a Labirinth tension sensor provides the operator with a space awareness solution that is equipped with overload protection and many attachment options.

When the operator performs the test, the results can be transmitted to a PC via Labirinth’s communication solutions. This PC can monitor all incoming data through the measurement software, enabling the operator to monitor force, view real-time graphs and log data for analysis. While such applications are often associated with the textile industry, wire tension applications are common in the test and measurement world.
